MICHAEL MALONE’S DEATH

EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST

A DETECTIVE’S CLUE.

Wellington, January 17

An inquest was held on the man named Michael Malone who was recently arrested for drunkenness and died in the Terrace Gaol. The evidence showed that the man had been badly knocked about. Dr Fyffe said he had no hesitaion in saying ho believed the man had been done to death. Deceased was marked in numerous places, and the right parietal bone was fractured.

No further light could be thrown on the occurrence at the time, but recently a detective noticed a man wearing clothes which did not fit him. He questioned the man, and was not satisfied with the answer. ' The maker’s tag had been torn off the clothing but investigation showed that the suit had been made in Taumarunui. The maker reported that it was made for a man named Malone, and Malone was known to have been working in that district.
