WORK AND WAGES.

THE HOTEL EMPLOYEES’ DISPUTE.

(Per Press Association.)

Wellington, January 13

No agreement could bo arrived at by the Conciliation Council, which sat again to-day, to deal with the dispute between the Wellington Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union and the employers of Wellington City and suburbs. The dispute will now go direct to the Arbitration Court, without any recommendations from the Conciliation Council. / THE RUSSELL CASE. Sydney, January 13. In reply to letters from the Indus? trial Registrar suggesting that Mount Kembla should make reparation to Russell by reinstating him, the secretary of the company points out that in dismissing Russell at the end of a fortnight’s notice the company was exercising a clear legal right. He denies victimisation or a desire to strike at unionism. He claims that the Commissioner’s findings justified the dismissal, and adds that the company does not acknowledge any obligation to render an account of its actions with regard to internal management. He considers that the reinstatement would be a fatal mistake and utterly subversive to proper discipline. He must act accordingly.
