Eckerlin, a prisoner, escaped through a skylight, passed two warders, and entered a room, from which he stole a uniform and took a revolver. He then prepared to liberate his companions, but was discovered, and a terrific struggle ensued before he was overpowered. He made several attempts to shoot the warders, anil if Eckerlen had been, successful the band could easily have overcome the five warders. SHIPPING COMBINE. Capetown, January 10. The Chamber of Commerce has entered a protest against the new agreement between the shipowners and merchants, which is in the nature of a Combine and threatens the exclusion of goods of shippers who do not sign. The members of the Chamber of Commerce suggest that the Government should notify the Union and Castle Companies that entry into the combine is a breach of the mail contract. !
