AMUSEMENTS.
HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. His Majesty’s was crowded last night, and the attendance was bigger than ever before in the history of this popular little picture palace, money being turned away at the doors, and standing room only being obtained bj many patrons. The programme proved worthy of the size of the audience, and it is safe to assert that tho series screened for tho first time last evening were as good as any we have had. and at times a great deal better. The Kalem masterpiece, “A Tragedy of tho Desert,” is a great study, and the big star film, from title to trademark, was followed with great interest. The whole thing is done on a big scale, and the thoroughness and ■strict attention to detail which, are to be found in Kalem productions, was a pleasing feature of the picture. The film was taken for the most part in the Sahara, while many of' the scenes were acted-by the Kalem Co. in Luxor. The story concerns an English doctor, who leaves a faithless wife, plunges into the desert, and marries the Sheik’s daughter. Then the white wife appears on the scene. The doctor, repulsing her caresses, leads her out of the village, but the Mohammedan wife, thinking he is faithless and is leaving her for ever, sends her soul to Allah —that is “The Tragedy of the Desert.” Other items in this star programme are: “The Black Sheep” (A.B. drama), “The Passing Shadow” (S. and A. drama), and “The Price of Art (Selig feature drama). _ The interest portion includes “Falmouth to Tingngcl” and “The London Fire Brigade,” and tho comedy section is well represented with “Grontan’s Inheritance,” “Honeyipooners,” and “The Wooden Indian,” To-night this programme will again lie screened, when another large house is assured.
