Victoria in their first innings have lost 8 wickets for 219 runs (Carroll 55, Carkeek 36, Armstrong 24, Rydci not out 34). THE PLUNKET SHIELD. V Auckland, January 2. The Auckland-Wellington match was resumed to-day in light showery weather anti with an easy wicket. Auckland carried their score to 279 in reply to Wellington’s 201. Hemus hit up 85 in excellent style. Wellington opened very disastrously in the second innings, and when stumps were drawn had scored 11 runs for the loss of live wickets. Oliff, who took all five wickets received a great ovation when returning to the pavilion. SOUTH MELBOURNE v. CANTERBURY. Christchurch, January 2. The Canterbury v. South Melbourne match was resumed to-day in fine weather. The visitors continued their innings. Kyle lifted a ball to midon, where Bennett held the match.— 269—9—39. Pentland, the last man, was bowled by Reese, the innings realising 200. Canterbury, in their second innings, fared badly, being all out for 91. The Wellington senior Wednesday cricket team defeated Canterbury by ten wickets. Canterbury made 58 (M'Farlane 14 being the only double figure scorer), and 77 (Keans 33, Hinksman 11, M'Farlane 10). In the first innings M‘lntyre took five wickets for 14 and Harris five for 41, and in the second Harris got eight for 26. Wellington knocked up 135 (Harris 36, George 52). Skelton took four wickets for 29 runs. M‘ln tyre and Warne then went in, and the former got the necessary run to win oif the second ball. WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY JUNIORS. Wellington, January 2. The Wellington Wednesday Cricket Association’s junior team defeated Canterbury by eight wickets. The visitors made 112 (Faulkner 29) and 67 in the second innings. ’Wellington made 175 (A. J. Williamson 69, L. Williamson 30, O’Brien 26).
