FEDERAL SETTLEMENT SCHEME RENT FOR 21 YEARS FREE! Melbourne, December 22. The land which the Federal Government is throwing open on Daly river, in the Northern Territory, for agricultural selection is to be granted in perpetual lease. For the first perioo of leases —which will be for 21 years, or for the 1 lifetime of the applicant, if he should die within the 21 years —no rent will be payable. Afterwards there will be a re-appraisement every 21 years. If rent be not paic within three months of the due date. G per cent interest will be charged. All mineral rights are reserved to tin Government, together with power oi resumption of the property. There are 26 blocks available, ranging from 290 to 620 acres. A strip of land about two chains wide k reserved along the river banks. The jungle consists of large kapoc trees, parasitic figs, banyans, and numerous tropical djmbers (such as lianas, bam boos, and native passion fruit). The jungle soils (are black alluvium, rather difficult to work, but when worked becofning friable. Transportation facilities are promised by means oi Government vessels, which are to trade regularly between Darwin and the settlement.
