NEW SOUTH WALES v. WANGANUI. (Per Press Association.) Wanganui, December 30. The touring New South Wales Teachers concluded their match with Wanganui to-day, the visitors winning by an innings and four runs. Scores — Wanganui 101 and 81, Teachers 186. THE NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM. Christchurch, December 30. As the cable message from Sydney in connection with the proposed visit of the New South Wales team to New Zealand is apt to mislead cricketers as to the cause of the tour falling through, the chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council explained to a press representative to-day that the Council considers it desirable to place facts before the public. The chairman said that he was requested whilst on a visit to Sydney to interview the executive of the New South Wales Cricket Association, and it was decided at that interview to ask the New Zealand Council to make an offer to pay all travelling and hotel expenses and 2s 6d per day per man. This suggestion was carried out, and an offer on those lines was made by the New Zealand Council to the New
! South Wales Association. The reply recetVed to that offer was to the effect that 5s per day per man was required. In view of the fact that a strong eleven of well-known players was practically assured, the New Zealand Council acceded to the request, though it somewhat upset financial arrangements already made. A further request was received from the New South Wales Association for an additional £6O for washing and tips, which the Council could not comply with. Briefly, the New South Wales executive undoubtedly gave an understanding that this team would” be sent if travelling and hotel expenses and 2s Gd per man per day was offered by the New ZV;.Lnrl Conned Subsequently they requested a further 2s 6d per man per day and .< hen that was agreed to by the New Zealand Council a demand for a further £6O was made. This the New Zealand Council could not accede to, and reluctantly abandoned the tour. The additional £6O asked for would have meant that players would have received £2 12s 6d. per week, instead of the 35s offered by the Council.
