PRESIDENT TAFT.

REPORTED ATTEMPT ON HIS LIFE.

(Received 10.40 a.m.) Panama, December 26. Fifteen minutes after President Taft passed through the street bound for a ball, an explosion occurred in the Park opposite the Chief Hotel. It is believed that an attempt was made on President Taft’s life, but that the explosion occurred prematurely. The Government explains that the explosion destroyed the new stand, but was not connected with President Taft’s visit. It was merely an incident relating to a private vengeance between two business rivals.
