WEEK-END CABLES.

From January 1, 1913'; a system of week-end cables kill be inaugurated between New Zealand and the United Kingdom. They will ho subject to the regulations governing deferred cables. They must reach the New Zealand cables stations either at Auckland or Wakapuaka before 8 p.m. on Saturday evenings. For this purpose messages may either be posted or telegraphed to the cable stations, It posted they must be prepaid as letters, and the cable rate must be attached to the message in stamps. If telegraphed, the island charge of id per word is added to thecaolq rate. Upon reaching the country of destination the message will be sent by first post from the cable station,to the addressee, If desired, it may be telegraphed to the office of destination upon payment of an additional id per word. The,cable rate is 9d per word, with a minimum charge of 18s. This sum will cover a message of 24 words. If will thus be seen tliqt such a message can lie telegraphed from an office in New Zealand to any office in the United Kingdom for the sum of £l. This is exactly one-fourth of the usual rate, and should prove very convenient where a delay of one or two days is of little consequence. Doubtless the privilege will be largely availed of.
