ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

THE INEVITABLE PEA-RIFLE

(Per Press Association.) Napier, December 23. A lad named Harry Munrow, aged 14, met with a serious accident yesterday. He was engaged in cleaning 'a pea-rifle, not knowing it was loaded, and a cartridge exploded, the bullet entering his stomach. He was removed to a private hospital, but although the bullet has not yet been located he Js not considered to be in immediate danger. FOUND DROWNED. Nelson, December 23. At the adjourned inquest touching the death of Kaspar Anderson, a seaman on the scow Southern Isles, who was found drowned in the harbour on December 9, the Coroner returned a verdict that deceased was found drowned, there being no evidence to show how he got into the water.

A little boy was injured under most remarkable circumstances at Katikati a day or two ago (telegraphs the Waihi correspondent of the ‘New Zealand Herald’). Hearing screams, the hoy’s mother ran out, and found the little fellow lying on the ground, where he was being savagely attacked by a white Leghorn rooster. The bird had evidently struck the boy with a spur, as there was a deep gash extending from the forehead to the nose. As the mother ran forward, the rooster turned upon her, but was quickly compelled to beat a retreat, and was afterwards killed.
