ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

THE TE ARO BATHS FATALITY

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, December 13. An inquest w r as held to-day on the body of the telegraph messenger Jounax, w'ho was drowned in the To Aro Swimming Baths. It was stated in evidence that during the afternoon about 1000 people were in the baths, but the accident to deceased was unnoticed. A verdict was returned that death was due to accidental drowning, and that no blame w r as attachable to the caretaker of the baths.

Mr. Victor Geary, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Geary, of Oxley’s Hotel, Blenheim, met with a painful accident while attending to the electrical machinery recently. While endeavouring to start the engine it “kicked back,” and young Geary was caught by the belt and dragged across the fly-wheel. His cries attracted the attention of Miss Geary, who found him securely caught in the machinery, and assistance had to be gained to cut the belt in order to secure release. Dr Redman was immediately summoned, and found the unfortunate young man to have had an exceedingly narrow escape. Although he was severely crushed about the arms and body, luckily no bones were broken.
