AMUSEMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE

Monday’s new programme includes some fine films. One of those timely stories of contemporary life which the Edison forces seem to handle exceptionally well is “The Insurgent Senator.” The cast of characters includes Augustus Phillips, Charles Ogle, Mary Fulfer, and Marc McDermott, tho last named being an especially popular actor with local audiences. The story concerns American “graft,” and is interesting right through. Another splendid film is the “Detective’s Conscience.” Bud Carter and Ills sister Nell, children of an old family of moonshiners, think it perfectly right to run a still, but the sheriff of the county informs the Revenue Department, and Delemer Campbell an officer, is sent out to assist the sheriff in raiding the place. Campbell, to get evidence, makes himself acquainted with Carter, and in so doing visits the place and falls in love with Nell. This is discovered by Bud, and at. the suggestion of a 'gun Campbell is forced to marry Nell. The officer, however, goes on with the Job, and with the sheriff, closes up the still, abandons his wife, and sends Carter to jail. Two years pass and Campbell is driven crazy witli remorse, and being unable to resist, he gives up his position in the department and goes back to his wife. Carter is released from jail and the two men meet, a tragedy is averted only by Nell introducing their baby as a peacemaker. A Gaumont Graphic, and some excellent scenics, including glimpses of Constantinople and a trip to the Bermudas, figure in Monday’s change.
