TELEGRAPHISTS ON STRIKE

A meeting of telegraphists unanimously decided to absolutely refuse to work the new staff hours coming into force on Monday, hut were prepared to continue on the existing conditions until the matter was settled by the Arbitration Court. The complaint was caused by broken shifts, which, instead of being reduced or abolished, as expected, had been increased and made more irksome.

IMMIGRATION SHUT DOWN. The outcome of the Government’s decision to shut down on immigration, except nominated wives and children of immigrants already here, is that Mr. Percy Hunter, who was despatched early in 1912 to superintend immigration, has been recalled.
