The annual inter-college match between Wellington and Wanganui was concluded to-day, and resulted in an easy win for the local boys. Wellington, in their second innings, only succeeded in knocking up 44 of the 242 required to win. Wanganui having compiled 219 in their second innings. For Wanganui, Bernau 62, Humphries 46, Salmon 50, and Bennett 18, were the chief scorers. For Wellington, Stanton 22 (not out) was the only double-figure scorer. The lucky four! Macartney, Whitty, Mayne, and Hazlett are the members of the Australian Eleven who accepted the guarantee of the Board of Control for a lump sum of £4OO each.

LAWN TENNIS

Brisbane, December 13

The tennis tournament between Britain and Queensland was played in fine weather on good courts. The visitors disposed of their opponents easily, except St. John and McLean. The latter went within a point of winning the rubber. Dixon and Beamish beat St. John and McLean, 3—6, 7—5, 6—4 Parke and Lowe beat Ratten and Exton, 6—2, 6—3. Lowe beat Exton, 6—l, 6—3. Dixon beat McLean, 6—o, 6—3. BOXING. London, December 10. Johnny Summers, who won the English Welter Championship at the Sporting Club’s rooms, prayed and made the sign of the cross in the ring before his fight with Burns began. SWIMMING.

Napier, December 13. A swimming carnival arranged in connection with the visit of the Australians, Solomons, Hay, and Riddington, was held in the municipal baths last evening under most favourable conditions. Solomons swam exceptionally well and put up two new records for New Zealand. Fifty yards was covered in 25isec, the previous record being Fordham’s 27sec, and 100 yards was traversed in 60 2-ssec, the pievious best being Cavill’s 61sec, and Champion’s 63 2-osec.
