O’Grady has been sentenced to death for murdering his wife and child at Annandale, on November 6.
THE ADMIRALTY’S GIFT
(Received 11, 9.25 a.m.) Melbourne, December 11. The Admiralty lias made a free gift of the third-class cruiser Pioneer tc the Commonwealth. Fifteen thousand assisted immigrants have entered New South Wales ui 1912. RAILWAY GAUGE CONFERENCE. Melbourne, December 11. The interim report of the Railway Gauge Conference states that the choice lies between the 4ft 8-J-in. and the sft. Sin. It was decided that the relative advantages, disregarding the cost of conversion, were equal. The .Conference adjourned to secure information as to the cost of converting each. ,
NORTH MOUNT LYELL
(Received 11, 10.30 a.m.) Hobart, December 11
The North Mount Lyell fire is extinct, and preparations are being made to get the water out of the mine. A body (the eighth) was found at the 700 ft. level, but it has not been identified.
