“THE MESSIAH” IN WELLINGTON {Per Press Association.) Wellington, December 9. Great interest has been aroused in musical circles by the announcement that the Royal Choral Society has induced Madame Kirkby Limn to sing the contralto part in “The Messiah” on December 20. Supporting her will be Madame Wielaert (soprano), Mr. Andrew Black (well-known baritone), and Walter Whyte, cf Sydney (tenor). The occasion will also be the last appearance of Mr. Maughan Barnett as conductor previous to taking up his appointment at Auckland as town organist. THE CARRIAGE OF FRUIT. Hastings, December 9.

At a meeting cf Hawke’s Bay Fruitgrowers’ Association on Saturday, a letter was received from the Director of Orchards covering a copy of the regulations providing for the carriage of fruit by post, and asking whether the Association was prepared to receive orders, and see the fruit promptly despatched. The Association resolved not to take the responsibility, but individual members have agreed to formulate a scheme of their own to participate in postal trade and appoint a special secretary to attend and promptly despatch orders so received. MOTOR BUS SERVICE. The Hastings Motor Omnibus Company has successfully inaugurated its Frimley-Hastings service on Saturday. A SAFE DYNAMITED. Napier, December 9.

Some time between Saturday night and 7.30 this morning, the safe at the premises of J. Boyce, tailor, was blown open with dynamite, and all the available cash taken, the cheques being left. T„he safe was carried from the front shop to a rear room, and surrounded with rolls of tweeds, which were much damaged by the explosion. The safe was completely wrecked. Boyce cannot yet state how much w«» taken.
