THE DAVIS CUP CONTEST.

Sydney, December 4. The British tennis players arrived to-day and were enthusiastically received. Mr Colquhpun presided at a welcome gathering. Mr Dixon said that the victory was due to Parke. Ho eulogised the hospitality shown to the team in Melbourne. Mr Parke paid a tribute to the sporting attitude of the spectators. Ho had never played to such a sporting crowd before. They applauded the good play of both teams equally. If Brookes and Wilding play in the next contest he could not see any hope of Britain bolding the Cup. It "would come back to Australia. ' The Commonwealth, he said, had good school boys coming on, and he mentioned among them O’Hara, Woods, Patterson and Andersmj. If the Cup came back to Australia it would be a long time before it left, again. Mr Beamish commented on the good sportsmanship shown, especially after Britain had won. "It really made us feel,” he said, “as if they were glad wc won.”
