SYDNEY’S NEW COUNCIL. DEFEAT OF EX-LORD MAlu^. (Received 9.20 a.m.) Sydney, December 3. Much interest is being taken in the city municipal elections. Labour made a bold bid to capture the-Council, running candidates for all the seats. The chief feature of the contests was the defeat of Sir Allen Taylor, ex-Lord Mayor, whose seat was captured byMr Mcßce, a- member of the municipal Labour Assembly. The Liberals not only succeeded in holding their own, but captured a seal from Labour. The old Council consisted of seven Labour, and nineteen Liberals and Independents ; the new Council has seventeen Liberals, five Labour and four Independents, though most of the last-named aro Labour sympathisers. Mr Dick Meagher, was re-elected.
