In the House of Commons Mr Byles, in view of Lord Roberts’ speeches, asks for particulars regarding compulsory service in Australia ; also whether only forty per cent of the boys of fourteen years obeyed enrolment. Colonel Seely (Under-Secretary for War) replied that he had placed a Commonwealth Parliamentary paper in tho library, and lie was not aware of any general resistance to the compulsory Clauses. EXPLOITING THE PUBLIC. Lord Halsbury, in the House of Lords, called attention to a land inquiry circulating forms without an imprint and headed “private and confidential.” He said the circulars were apparently seeking to suggest that, the forms were public documents, and he suggested that the law officers should prosecute.
