The Takapuna Jockey Chib’s spring meeting opened to-day. The weather was fine, and the track was in fa'r condition. There was a big attendance. The, t-otalisator handled £17,211, as against £12,355 for the corresponding day last year. Results : Trial Handicap, of 100 sovs; one mile.,—ll Virtue, 8.2, 1; 7 Manuwera, 8.10, 2; 8 The Whip, 8.1, 3. Won by three lengths. Time, Imin 46 2-ssec. Borough Handicap, of 100 sovs; five and a half furlongs.—4 Waiorewa', 9.5, 1; 2 Royal Irish, 7.0, 2; 7 Blue Garment, 7,2, 3. Won eas'ly by a length and a half. Time, Imin 10 l-ssec. Bonni Maiden Hurdles, of 100 sovs; one mile and a half and 100 yards.— 3 Hunakaha, 9.3, t; 10 Hyperion, 9.0, f; 9 Nel ins, 9.0, 3. Hunakaha and Hyperion fought out a desperate finish, with Nclius a length away.. Time, 3min Usee.
St. Andrews’ Handicap, of 250 sovs; one mile and a quarter.—l La Rcina, 8.0, 1; Goldsize, 8.0, 2; 4 Joke Fille, 7.10, 3. Won by two lengths, with a head between second and third. Time, 2min U 2-ssec. Cambria Handicap, of 10 sovs; four furlongs.—l Ladv Alicia, 8.7, 1 ; 5 Rose de Guerre, 7.5, 2; 4 Marshal McDonald, 7.10, 3. Won by three lengths. Time, 52 l-ssec. Melrose Handicap, of 100 sovs; osfurlongs.—9 Bluestone, 8.12, 1 ; 2 Pnoli, 8.11, 2; 1 Tripoli, 8.4, 3. Won by two lengths. Monorosae ami Glermfrie fell. Time, Imin 11 l-ssee. T'ri Handicap Hurdle race, of 100 sows; one anile and three-quarters —- Sphinx, 9.13, 1; 4 Bully, 9.5, 2; 5 Nape nape, 9.1, 3. Won pulling up, I, v ten lengths. Seaman foil, bringing down Darby Paul. Time, 3irnn 24 see. .
Cheltenham Handicap, sovs; seven furlongs.— (Scorch, 7.5, 1 ; I Flectrakolf, 8.1, 2 ; 5 Elegauee, ‘6.11, 3, Won by a neck. Time, Imin 29 2-ssce.
The Siind burnt- Cup, which was run yesterday, resulted: Abdieatnr 1, Alagas 2, Slipper 3. Ahdieator -won by a head in 2min B;}sec.
