OBITUARY.
MR. WILLIAM ABBOTT.
With regret wo have to record that Mr. William Abbott, licensee and owner of the Stratford Hotel, died last night at 9.30, aetat 56. Mr. Abbott was exceedingly well known throughout the Taranaki district, and those who knew him best respected him the most. Ho was horn in Berkshire, and has resided in the Dominion for some thirty-five years. Mr. Abbott has been “mine host” in many hotels in this and in oilier districts, aim ng them being the Criterion, and Star, Otahuhii, Masonic, Wanganui, but lie will be best known as the licensee and owner of the Whangamomona Hotel, which institution he conducted for over six years. Relinquishing the Wfianga Hotel, Mr. Abbott transferred to the Toko Hotel, and then, recently, to the Stratford Hotel. Mr. Abbott took a deep interest in sporting and Masonic matters, and as a mark of esteem on leaving the Auckland district was made a life member of a northern lodge. Of late he had been in failing health, and his death, though sudden, was not unexpected. He leaves a widow and three sons and three daughters—Messrs William Abbott (Pukekohe), Edward Abbott (Turakau), and “Bunny” Abbott (Stratford), and the Misses Marion Abbott (Auckland), Ethel Abbott (Stratford), and \ era Abbott,'’ who is stiii at school in New Plymouth.
The funeral takes place on Sunday a I 2.30 p.m.
