NEW ZEALAND’S CADETS.

VISIT NEW PLYMOUTH TO-DAY. Numbers of people were much disappointed last night when the mail tram failed to bring with it the company of Now Zealand Cadets, who have been doing jjuch big things in Canada. Only two boys arrived, and these were an advance guard in charge of the luggage, the others having stayed at Eltham, where they were accorded a civic reception. Afterwards Captain imllerton and the remaining eighteen bays came on to Stratford by drag, the cadets going straight to their quarters, or, rather, the hotels and homes to which they have been invited. The hour was so late that a civic reception was out of the question, but Ihii will be accorded the boys to-night, when, on the raising of the curtain of If Our Regiment,” tiie cadets will be officially welcomed by his Worship the 3Vlavor'(Mr. W. P. Kirkwood). This morning the hoys left by the 9 o'clock train for New Plymouth, where they will spend the day, returning to Stratford by the 6.4Uj0.m. train. The fine soldier-like appearance of the boys, and their splendid physique, attracted the attention of all those on the station this morning, and many complimentary references to ‘‘our boys” were made. _ , ~ Chatting to a representative of the “Evening Post,” two of the boys confessed to being just a little tired,,of train travelling, but, otherwise, were enjoying their long holiday immensely. They were greatly enamoured of Canada and the Canadians, but much preferred to live in New Zealand. One alleged that it was “not safe to take your hands out of your pockets in Winnipeg, lest they should be frozen off.” Yet it was not in the depths of winter that they visited the Canadian city- . To-night the cadets, will give a display at the Town Hall in conjunction with the production of “Our Regiment.” To-morrow they visit the Mountain, and in the evening will be the guests of Madame Bernard at His Majesty’s Theatre.
