Mrs Newman, wife of Dr. A. K. Newman, M.P., is seriously ill. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher will turn the first sod in connection with the Eketahuna water supply. ' Mr Arthur Morton, President of the National Dairy Association, was a passenger by the mail train this morning for the Palmerston North Show. By a coincidence, Labour Day was the’birthday of Wellington’s first Labour Mayor (Mr D. M‘Larcn). Mr M(barren W as born in. Glasgow 43 years tigo. Mr William Blass ; a very old resident of Woodville, died yesterday. Deceased had been in business in Woodville since 1883. He leaves a family of five, all of whom are married, Mrs. George Snow, who was the first white woman to land in Nelson, died in Wanganui last week. The deceased lady came out to Nelson in 1841, by the' barque Martha Eidgway. She loaves a husband, four sons, two daughters, .and numerous grandchildren . ’ The marriage took place to-day of Mr. M. O’Connor, fourth son of the late Mr. P. O’Connor, of Stratford, to Miss D. Nally, daughter of Mr. John Nally, of Invercargill. The ceremony was performed at the Stratford Homan Catholic Church, the Eev. Father Maples officiating. Mr G. F. K. Adams, India, a New Zealander, has just been selected to serve on a commission formed by the Government of India, to enquire into the best way of managing and looking after pilgrims at the nig religious fairs tnat are held all over India. He managed a very large fair at Allahabad last year, tor which he got a great deal of credit, and at which he nad over two midion pilgrims to look af.er. Not a single hitch occurred. He also liad Charge of a similar fair at Meerut lately.
