THE SOLE LANGUAGE. London, October 23. The House of Commons, by 323 to 222, rejected an amendment reserving to tbe British Parliament the power to maintain English as the solo language of the Irish Parliament, and the Law Courts. _An amendment was also lost preventing the Irish Parliament from disqualifying candidates for pub ic positions on toe ground that they did not know Gaelic. A clause was guillotined shutting out IGI amendments on clauses 1 and 2. DISESTABLISHMENT. Mr. Birred, debating the amendment withholding from the Irish Parliament tbe power to disestablish any religion, promised to- introduce words to secure that the constitutions of roligious bodies would not be interfered witii except at too denomination’s own desire. The amendment was withdrawn. AN HONEST ENDEAVOUR. Sir A. Conan Doyle, Mr. Joseph Hocking, Mr. Piris, Mr. Frcdeiicb Pollock, and Mr. Westridge Way, in i manifesto state that they do not sup port Gladstone’s Homo Rule scheme, but are convinced that some form of Homo Rule is necessary to remove a standing danger to the Empire. Tju present Bill is an honest endeavour, and should bo passed.
