BLACKBALL COAL CO.

RAISING THE VALUATION. Vi",'::!'!* "'V' v ' ___ (Per Press Association.) Greymouth, October 23. In the Grey Assessment Court'-yes-terday Afternoon, a case of interest to local bodies was heard. It was an objection to the valuation of the Blackball Coal Company’s property. The County Council objected on the ground that the valuation was too low. The present valuation was £3500, and the local bodies system, estimating the capital value, placed the figures at £160,000. Counsel contended that all gross profits such as owners’ profits (royalties), .company's (lesses) profits should be taken into consideration, besides net profits, for the purposes of valuation, county rates and capital value. After a lengthy hearing, the Court raised the valuation to £51,115, an increase of £15,633, being under the heading of coal and raised the figures £18,770 to £33,303 oh unimproved values.
