MARTON JOCKEY CLUB. (Per Press Association.) Morton, October 17. Fine weather prevailed for the Mastorton races, and there was a record attendance. The sum of £9744 was put through the totalisator during the day. Five out of eight events were won by the favourites. Results:— Final Stakes, of 50 sovs; five furlongs.—l Expect, 8.6, 1; 12 Exertion, 8.3, 2; 5 Offer, 8.3, 3. 14 Merry Vale, 9 Sir - Saracen, 8 Suratora, 3 Yladinoy, 10 Rosaleys, 20 Operation, 7 Top Note, 13 Glenliven, 6 Yankee Doodle, 15 Elevated, 16 Valtirc, 2 Warlight, 12 Hamurana, 18 Gay Lass, 19 Guiding Way, 4 Secret Link, and 3 Golden Sky also started. Won easily by two lengths, with half a length separating second and third. Time, Irnin 4 2-ssoc.
Telephone Hack Handicap, of 60 sovs; six furlongs.—2 Imagination, 7.8, 1; 5 King’s Favourite, 8.2, 2; 6 Ladino, 8.9, 3. 1 Merton, 4 Stockade,- 3 Papamarama, 7 Dogfish, and 8 San Port also started. Favourite made the running, but Imagination came in the straight and won by two lengths. Time, Irnin 16)sec. Flying Handicap, of 70 sovs; six furlongs.—2 Leapuki, 7.4, 1; 7 Blue Lake, 9.0, 2; 1 Thrave, 7.12, 3. 4 Rangiatua, 9 Ascalon, 3 Deploy, 3 Killaloo, 6 Winning Post, 5 Parcwanui, and 5 Longstep also started. Leapuki won all the way and passed the post two lengths in front of Blue Lake. Time, Irnin 17 l-ssec.
Masterton Cup, of 120 sovs; one mile and a quarter.—l Undecided, 9.5, 1; 6 Mira, 7.12, 2; .11 Master Laddo, 6,7, 3. 7 The Rover, 3 Byron, 2 Sinapis, 9 Routine, 4 Ngatimaru, 10 Bally Shannon, 8 Bonnie Boy, and 5 Lady Kdhceran also started. Undecided drew out and won by a length and a half from Mira, who finished fast. Time, 2min 12 2-sscc. Ladies’ Bracelet, of 40 sovs; one mile.—l Fashion Plate, 11.8, 1; 2 Manitau, 11.10, 2; 4 Bravest, 11.6, 3. 10 Himitangi, 3 Black Reef, 5 Whimper, 9 Kiwitea, 8 Waimahora, 6 Ranter, 7 Cliffeide, and 10 Rexer also started. Won with the greatest ease by two lengths. Time, Imin 49sec. Won by a length. Time, linin 4 l-sscc. NEW ZEALAND TROTTING CUP. SECOND PAYMENTS. Christchurch, October 16. The following are the second payments for the New Zealand Trotting Cup, of 1000 sovs; two miles.—Emmeline scr., St. Swithin ssec, Aberfcldy 5, Bright G, Lady Clare 7, Princess Louise 7, Silver Princess 7, Gold Bell 8, Rcdchild 8, Quinccy 8, Prince Alert 8, Little Tib 8, Albert H. 8, Glendalough 8, Piecework 9, Ravonschild 9, Mandorene 9, Medallion 9. GENERAL. An exhaustive inquiry lias convinced Trafalgar’s trainer that ho will not stand a further preparation. He will advise the owners to release him from his engagements and send him to retirement. He has raced over a hundred miles, and won over £22,000. Trafalgar won the Rand wick Plate during each of the past four years—at 4yrs, syrs, 6yrs, and 7yrs—a marvellous record. Wilari has been scratched for the Caulfield Cup. Royal Scotch has split a hoof and is a doubtful starter on Saturday. ACCIDENT TO A HUNTER. Auckland, October 18. The hunter, Captain Paul, fell while schooling at Ellerslie, and the rider, \V. Chafe, sustained concussion of the brain and some bad bruises, but is progressing favourably.
