IN BANKRUPTCY. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, October 11. Edward Wilfred Jacobs, formerly in business as a pastry cook'in Wellington, has been arrested in Sydney on

a charge of committing a breach of i the New Zealand Bankruptcy Act. He has been wanted by the police here , for the past, two years. ACCOMMODATION IN FLAXMILLS. Palmerston N., October 11. The following is a letter sent to the Prime Ministerby Mr E. L. Broad, president of the Flaxmillers’ Association, referring to newspaper reports on the recent discussion in the House:—“ln regard to the accommodation of flaxmill workers, and the decent cases of typhoid, the Association respectfully requests you to instruct the Government Health Officer to make an immediate inspection of flaxmills in the Manawatn district and draw up a special report. If desired, the Association will appoint a member, or members, to conduct the doctor throughout the district and assist him in every way possible.” PATENT RIGHTS. Wellington, October 11. Judgment was given by the Chief Justice to-day in the cases, George Harrington Mac Ewen and J. B. MacEwan and Co., Ltd., against Joseph Hopkirk, engineer, of Hawera. Plaintiffs claimed £250 damages for an infringement of patent rights of an apparatus for agitating milk and the like, for cheesemaking. His Honor found that there had been an infringement, and on Saturday last ho conducted an enquiry for the purpose of assessing the damages. As the result of the enquiry judgment wasgiven for plaintiff for £134 18s, with costs on the £3OO scale, £ls 15s, and for a second day £5 5s for second counsel, and £7 7s for costs of hearing' as to the damages, and witnesses’ expenses and disbursements for both hearings. An order as to the validity of the plaintiff’s patent was granted.
