Dr. Mjoberg, Swedish explorer, who was in charge of the recent scientific research expedition to Wostralia, proceeds shortly to Queensland to continue investigations. Ho intends to study especially the rain forests, whore there were the last traces of Malayan vegetation. Mjoberg considers the aborigines arc only primitive Caucasians who had boon living here for thousands of years. Some specimens secured in North-west Australia wore entirely new to science,-finduding a small rodent, some birds, and numerous insects.

THE MATERNITY BONUS. , Melbourne, October 1. The Presbyterian Assembly carried a ’motion condemning tire proposal to give the maternity allowance in the case of illegitimates as dangerous to the morals, and tending to ignore the importance of 'marriage, with an additional clause that if the bonus were given to unmarried mothers it should not bo given directly but should be used for t]ieir assistance by suitable agencies.
