EDUCATION BOARD.

j At yesterday's meeting of the Board ! several matters of interest to this disI trict were dealt with.

In regard to agricultural scholarships j as urged by the Stratford committee, ! the following motion was unanimously carried on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Masters: "That the attention of the Minister of Education be drawn to the report of a meeting of delegates from the Taranaki and Wanganui Education Boards, and the New Plymouth High School Board with reference to the Taranaki scholarships, and the funds arising from the Opaku University Reserve, and that lie be requested to endeavour to give effect to the recommendations contained in the report." Messrs Masters and Rogers were appointed to report to the Board on the matter of increased playing-shed accommodation at the Stratford High School. It was decided*. to the Department again impressing on it the necessity for enlarging the Stratford High School grounds by the inclusion of the section now occupied by the residence.

The chairman reported that he had arranged with the contractors (Messrs Boon Bros.) for the erection of the new school at Stratford, that the fine for non-completion of the' work should be £25, being £1 per day from January 31st to the day when the Board occupied the first two rooms, and that they should pay £3, being the rent that was actually paid for the use of the Salvation Army barracks during the same period. He had also arranged that, while denying all liability in connection' with the matter, the Board would pay half the cost (£8) of repairing the stoves installed in the building.
