GOLF. THE NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, September 23. The New Zealand golf tournament came to a conclusion yesterday in splendid weather, the links being in splendid condition. The last two rounds of the amateur championship were played, B. B. Wuod, of Christchurch, defeating H. Wright, of Ghristchurch, by 6 up and 5 to play. The winner displayed better allround form, Wright being weak on the greens. At the eighteenth hole, in the first round, good work was done by both, and it looked like a half in bogey 5, but Wright was laid halfstymie, and the dip of the ground being against him he lost by 6 to 5. He was thus 3 down at the end of this round, when the scores stood, Wood, out 39,|in 37; Wright, out 40, in 41. In the second round,; Wright's chances were hopeless at the twelfth hole, Wood winning at the fourteenth by 5 to 6, and the match by 6 up and 5 to play. At the invitation of Sir Joseph Ward, president of the Wellington Golf Club, Lord Islington presented the prizes. THE INVERCARGILL CHAMPIONSHIP. Inverciargill, September 23.
