(Per Press Association.) Whangarei, September 1-1. At a meeting of the County Council last night the Bank of New Zealand demanded a joint and several guarantee to meet the £I6OO over limit of the overdraft; also £3OO would be rr, quired before the rates could be recoverable. Councillors were not inclined to sign the guarantee and a committee was set up to interview financial institutions. Owing to want of consideration received, the clerk, Mr MeKinnon, sent in his resignation.
RESTRICTION ON IMPORTED
POTATOES

The Commonwealth Minister cf Cus toms has approved of the importation restrictions on potatoes being temporarily modified to a slight extent so as to permit of their admission for sale for food purposes. The following are the conditions under which potatoes may now be imported: That potatoes are accompanied by an official certificate from the country of origin, identifying the shipment and certifying that they have been inspected and show no signs of disease; that they are packed in the country of origin in clean new bags; that the bags, crates, or other packages are marked with the name of the country of origin; that upon inspection at the port of discharge in Australia potatoes are found free from disease and are so certified to by the plant quarantine officer; and that authority to import is obtained from the Minister.
