CANTERBURY v. TARANAKI
TO-DAY’S MATCH
One of the best games of the season should be seen to-day, and there are hundreds of other reasons why the public of Stratford should patronise the big match at the Show grounds this afternoon. The practice in Victoria Park yesterday was sufficient to show that the visitors are a good solid team, while the glorious uncertainty of Taranaki’s form should allow of no foregone conclusions as to the final result. The teams are: y CANTERBURY. A. E. Docll A. McDonald, N. Payne, R. Pyle L. Cave, and H. Taylor D. Sandman (Wing forward) L. Parsons W. Maxwell, E. Baxter W. Surgeson, A. Paterson, W. Commings E. Hasell, C. Hegartj (front row). TARANAKI. Tinney Don Cameron, Roberts, Stohr, S. Cameron Franklin Brown. (Wing forward) Taylor; Hawkins Whittington Tamu Pini, Kissick Cain Dewar. Emergencies: Bertrand (back), Ryan (forward).
Yesterday afternoon the visitors were taken for a drive round the country, the route taken being to Eltham and back, via the Opunake Road, Hastings Road, Eltham and Mountain Roads, the team expressing themselves as enjoying the outing very much. Last night Madame Bernard generously issued complimentary tickets to the team for the pictures at His Majesty’s. Tonight the Stratford Football Club’s dinner is the great attraction, and tomorrow the team leave for Wanganui by the mail train.
