The Times has just celebrated its forty-thousandth issue with a remarkable forty-four page supplement covering the history of printing. MANOEUVRES AT NORFOLK. London, September 10. Sixty thousand men are engaged in tlie manoeuvres at Norfolk. Captain Longcroft, of a Government built bi-plane, made remarkable reconnaissances. The opposing gunners were unable to estimate his height and speed and did not attempt to lire. Ranges taken simultaneously differed by 3000 yards.
WIRELESS
Melbourne, September 10
When the Port Darwin wireless station is completed, thereby linking Australia with the Empire, by a wireless system, the Government intends charging two shillings a word for wireless cables.
VESTED INTERESTS IN THE WAY
London, September 10
Sir H. Heaton, interviewed, said that deferred cablegrams were absurd, s:nce the carrying capacity of the American cables was 325,000,000 yearly, and only 25,000,000 were sent. The Australian cables could do sevenfold, sending 50,000,000 instead of the present 8,000,000. Vested interests alone stood in the way of penny-a-word telegrams throughout the world.

CHINESE LOAN FOR £10,000,000

The Powers are indignant at the report of a ten million sterling loan in London nearing completion. The Goverment admits that Hsiunghsiiing, former Minister of Finance, is negotiating for the loan.
TOWN IN DARKNESS. (Received 8.55 a.m.) London, September 10. Islington was in darkness for several hours owing to a slight accident to the power station.
