Second Edition AMERICAN POLITICS.
; o THE GOVERNORSHIP OF MAINE
(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.. (United Press Association.) (Received 12.45 p.m.) New York, September 10. The Republicans captured the Governorship of Maine State by a small majority, but the results of the elections for the other offices are still doubtful. Progressives controlled the Republican machine throughout the contest, as they were not running a candidate acting on Mr Roosevelt’s advice. The split between the Republicans and Progressives has been postponed until after the State elections. Although they lost the Governorship the Democrats are believed to he sufficiently powerful to secure control ol tile other offices.
