THE ELECTRIC SUPPLY CO.

-MR McCL TT GG AGE’S ST .ITEM KNIS. A good deal of comment has been made on Mr Joseph McCluggage s letter with regard to the conduct of the Stratford Electrical Supply Company’s business. In fairness to the Company, a representative of the “Stratford Evening Post” this morning waited on Mr Robert Masters, chairman of the company, to ask him if he cared to make any official statement in reply to this letter. Mr Masters said: “I do not believe in the principle of putting private business through the papers, and for this reason have not replied through your columns to Mr McCluggage. I may say, however, that Mr McCluggago had spoken to me privately about this matter fully a fortnight before this letter appeared, and I told bun that the meter would be taken down, sent to Dunedin, and tested at the expense of the Company 7 —this, by the way, is a charge usually made to tue consumer. The meter has been sent down, but has not yet arrived back.and we have not had any report as to the-"correctness of the meter. Also, I told Mr McCluggage that if there was any over-charge, through the meter registering too much, the Company would be only too pleased to make him a proper allowance, and if not, he (Mr McCluggage) would have to stand by, it. Could the Company have acted more fairly by Mr McCluggage?”

Later in the day Mr Masters rang np to say that he had just received a letter from the National Electrical and Engineering Company, of Dunedin, who certified that the meter was in good order, and was registering correctly.
