An inquiry has been opened into an incident wihiich occurred on the steamer Devon when off the South African coast. Captain Robertson stated that he left Durban on July 29th, and met a rough sea 22 minutes later. Just after leaving the bridge he felt a heavy jolt hut did not know what struck the Vessel as nothing was showing above the water. Next day the saloon doors were all out of true and the pillars of 1 reckoned ho was in twenty fathoms of water when it happened.
