FRIENDLY CONFERENCE.
REGARDING DUNEDIN FIRE BRIGADE. (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, May 27. The Dunedin Fire Board held a special meeting this afternoon to receive a deputation from members ef the brigade in regard, to their alleged grievances. Foreman Duncan, on behalf of the men, asked that the officer in charge should have power to grade the men tag first-class or senior r.cond class' and"Hiird-class, the men to be raised to different grades on the officer's recommendation ; first-class firemen to have .a trial as officers if a vacancy occurred, and junior officers to be given a trial if a vacancy occurred in a higher position. In the event of the deputy superintendentship becoming vacant a foreman to be appointed on trial, the foreman's positi m to be filled from the senior division, and if tho acting-deputy proves unsatisfactory, the latter to be appointed deputv on trial. The meeting was of a cordial nature, and the board undertook to give tho requests careful consideration.
