ITALIAN SUCCESS AFTER TWO HOURS’ FIGHTING. HEAVY TURKISH LOSSES. Rome, May 4. The Italians after two hours’ lighting at Homs, seized lebda, the birthplace of Emperor Severus. Three hundred Turks and Arabs were killed. Eight Italians were killed and 51 wounded. OCCUPATION OF RHODES. Rome, May 5. The Italians have occupied Rhodes The Turkish troops retired to the hills. LORD MORLEY’S VIEWS. London, May 5 In the House of Lords Lord Morley declared that it would be a mistake if England, in dealing with the Dardanelles, overlooked Turkey’s enormous Mohammedan interests, wherewith England was concerned, or Italy’s traditional friendship towards England, especially our concern in her position and relations as a Mediterranean Power. NEWSPAPER COMMENT. Vienna, May 4. The None Freie Presse suggests thatj Lord Morley meant that Italy might at a critical moment, he found on the side of the Triple Entente, instead of the Triple Alliance. Dor Zeit declares that Lord Morley indicated that in the event of a European war Britain reckons on Italy’s support or benevolent neutrality.
