Sydney, May 3. 4'hrec burglaries were reported to the police to-day. In one case the occupant fired two shots at the intruder, who escaped. Speaker Willis received through the post a package containing a cartridge similar to those used in a sparklet syphon. The letter accompanying it stated that it was an explosive bomb. Mr Gann, member for Broken Hill, has been appointed Colonial Treasurer. The three representatives of the Barier are now Ministers, Mr Griffiths being Minister for Public Works and Mir 4’homas Federal Minister for Home Affairs. Melbourne, May 4. Mr Fisher declared that the Federal Government will support Mr Gordon, the ’Sugar Commissioner, in any'action to test the legality of the position adopted by the Sugar Co.’s officials. (Received 4, 9.5 a.m.) Melbourne, May 4. Williamsons announce that Melba lias agreed to bring another grand opera company to Australia two years' hence. At satisfactory trials of two motor trains imported by the Railway Commissioners the trains developed a speed of sixty miles per hour. The Federal wireless station at Hobart has succeeded in establishing communication with Suva.
