Washington, May 2. Senator Works ,of California, protested in the Senate against Senator Smith’s investigation. The Titanic, he said, was manned by British subjects answerable to British law. The Government had gone to unwarrantable lengths. What the Senate sought to know could he ascertained in a few hours. \ HUGE RELIEF FUND. London, May 2. The Titanic’s relief fund has reached £322,000, including the Women’s Fund of £12,000. A GERMAN CONFERENCE. (Received 3, 8.5 a.m.) Berlin, May 2. A hundred representatives of shipping companies and maritime organisations are in conference, initiated by the Kaiser, to discuss safety appliances at sea. Herr Delbrueck presided. BRITISH INQUIRY OPENS. (Received 3, 9.15 a.m.) London, May 2. The Titanic Wreck Commission has opened at Westminster. The Law Offices are representing the Board of Trade. Sir R.
