ROLLING STOCK.
THE BUILDING PROGRAMME. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, April 29. In the course of an interview the Minister for Railways gave information regarding the building programme of the- Railway Department to meet the largely increased demands on the railway service in various parts of the Dominion. It is intended to place an order for ten class “A.D.” locomotives with Messrs Price, Ltd., at the Thames, in addition to ton constituting an order which this firm is executing at the present time. The Minister stated that the locomotive building programme provided for the construction of 60 engines, -15 of which were to be allocated to the North Island, and, in- addition, five class “X” loco-
motives are in various stages of construction. The major portion of the locomotive programme would go to the North 'lsland, owing to the rapid increase in business that has taken place during the last few years, and the probability that the increase would he maintained for some considerable time. In regard to rolling stock, Mr Mvers stated that the North Island
programme included the construction of II cars, 14 bogie waggons, and 780 four-wheeled waggons, whilst for the South Island there were allocated 19 ears, one brake van, 13 bogie waggons, and 244 four-wheeled waggons.
