"H.M.B. PINAFORE.”

A very successful practice of “Pinafore” was held cm Monday evening by the Operatic Society, all the principals being present. A commit too meeting was hold at the close of the rehearsal, when it was decided to purchase the entire wardrobe and scenery from the Dannqvirko Operatic Society, who recently performed this piece in the,' presence of Lord Islington. It was also decided to obtain the orchestral parts immediately, so as to have everything in a forward state. After discussion it was considered necessary from now until date of performance to hold rehearsals twice a week, dates to he advised when arranged. The secretary wa.s instructed to impress on all members the necessity of attending each and every practice for the future, to ensure a sucessful performance. Private rehearsals for principals only are also being' arranged. Captain Lumpen was elected assistant stage manager, and his experience in this direction should materially assist the correct staging of the piece. Altogether the rehearsals go with a good swing, which shows that the performers thoroughly understand their business and will spare no effort. Several dances, hornpipes, etc., are to he introduced under capable management. A few accounts were passed for payment, and members whose subscriptions are still unpaid will probably be notified. On Monday evening next all members are asked to manage to attend as matters of importance are to be discussed. The east is now as follows: Sir Joseph Porter, K.C.8., N. E.
