Sydney, April 29. During the voyage of the Maheno from Auckland to Svdney, thieves extracted jewellery valued at £2OO from the luggage of a lady passenger. Macplierson pleaded guilty to stealing £5497 from, the Singer Company, and was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment. The Chief Justice remarked that ho took. into consideration the fact that the example- sot him in the office was not the best. (Received 30, 9.20 a.m.) Melbourne, April 30.
