RIFLE SHOOTING.

On Thursday afternoon the Stratford and Kaponga Rifle Chibs fired a match, ten men aside, on the local range, 10 shots at 300 and 7 shots at 500 yards. The day was anything but enjoyable, being very damp and cold. The extremely cold wind pierced through overcoats and macintoshes. The Kaponga team are to be complimented for journeying out to fire the match, considering the squally state of the weather. The local team proved the victors by 32 points. Rifleman Jackson with 78 headed the local-scores and Roots headed the Kaponga scores with 77. The sight was bad .at times and the wind was very treacherous, being inclined to be a fish-tail. It is to be hoped the weather conditions are warmer when the tao clubs meet again in the future. The target frames on the local range are sadly in need of renewal, and it behoves the trustees, Territorials and riflemen to urge upon the Defence Department the needs of the local range. The Kaponga team had dinner provided for them at the County Hotel. The following the the scores:— Stratford.
