In the Court of Appeal to-day, before Chief Justice Sir Robert Stout and Justices Williams, Edwards, Cooper and Chapman/argument was heard in th Crown cases, reserved, of the King v. O’Shaughnessy and the King v. Hassell and Campbell. The cases arose out of the death of Elsie Alexandra Holland on June 13th of last year, at Auckland. It will be remembered that the trial took place in November last, and that Mrs O’Shanghnessy was convictd of manslaughter, and the other two prisoners of conspiring to obstruct, prevent, pervert, and defeat the course of justice. Mrs O’Shauglmessy was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment with hard labour, and the other prisoners to' twelve months’ imprisonment with hard labour. The questions reserved by 1 Mr Justice Chapman, the Judge ’presiding at the trials in both oliers"taken before the coroner. Mr certain' evidence’tending to show that Mrs O’Shaughnessy’s hoipe was known as' a place where illegal operations might lie performed, and the admissability of the depositions of the prisoners ta'k'n before the coroner. MiSinger appears for all the prisoners and the Solicitor-General for the Crown. Argumnt was not concluded when the Court rose. Dunedin, April ID. At 81/ieks to-day, Stanley Charles Hilgendorf was charged with stealing k 10, arid M ichurl Begley with receiving £2O, the property of the Postal Department. Both accused were employed on the railway at Omakau. Hilgendorf pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence, but Begley pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. Both were admitted to bail in their own recognisance of £75 each and two sureties of a similar amount.
