The Auckland Racing Club has donated £IOO towards the funds for the forthcoming industrial exhibition in that city.

The final bowling match of the Banner contest, is being playcd-off between Hawera and New Plymouth tins afternoon, on the Stratford Bowling Club’s greens. There is a large attendance of visitors, and afternoon tea is to be provided by the lady friends of members of the local club. Mr. H. B. Ford, manager of the Newbury-Spada Concert Company, was in Stratford this morning, but after making full enquiries, he does not consider that a concert company of this class would prove a success in Stratford,, and consequently the company will not include Stratford in their itinerary.

“My opinion is that we have got a good engineer, and we don’t want an outside engineer to report at all,” said a councillor at the meeting of the County Council this morning, when a member was advocating going outside for export opinion on a certain work. . We regret to have to announce the death of Mrs. Arthur Cliff, wife of the well-known secretary of the Taranaki Agricultural Society, who is also a popular member of the Hunt Club. The late Mrs. Cliff died at New Plymouth yesterday after a very short illness. All of Mr. Cliff’s friends will extend to him their sincere sympathy in his sudden bereavement. A very remarkable accident is reported from Pahautanui, near Wellington. A farmer was sharpening some knives of his chaffcutter on an I emery wheel. Near by was an open tin of blasting powder, and a spark from the emery wheel ignited the powder, | causing an alarming explosion. The farmer was practically blown out ofi the shod where lie was at work, and was very much burned. i A final reminder is given the pub-1 lie of the sowing machine, to be sold] by auction at the gymkhana to-morrow, at 2.30. This machine was given as a prize for the weight-guessing at the last show, and was won by three persons. As they could not agree as to the disposal of the prize, it has been decided to sell it by auction to-mor-row.

Our readers will note with interest that the National Dairy Show is to take place at Palmerston North on 25th, 20th, 27th and 2Sth June next. This is such a well-known fixture that all wo need say is the schedule to hand indicates tne fact that the forthcoming Show is to ho up to previous! standards.
