Russell, Minister of the Interior, said he was making a thorough study of the Local ..Government Bill, and would arrange a conference .of local bodies' delegates to discuss it in good time. He had a.-ked the Electoral Department fo) :i brief report on the electoral systems, including proportional representation, with a view to finding a satisfactory substitute for the second ballot.
He had lately inspected the Dominion Museum and the specimens belonging to it, and had been amazed at the enormous number of exhibits fo; which there was no room. Cases el' specimens had not seen daylight since 1865. Steps would have to he taken immediately to house the collection adequately and safely.
