STRATFORD GOLF CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT. Following is the annual report to be presented at the annual meeting ,el the Stratford Gun Club, which is to be held at 8 o'clock to-morrow even : incr j n the Borough Council Chambers; t r our Committee are pleased to be able to report a satisfactory state m the affairs of the club. As you are all aware, last year was probably the most critical in the history of- the clubi, inasmuch as it celebrated the first season on the new links. 'Owing to the rough state of the turf, the extra distance from town and the added subscriptions, your committee were much concerned as to the welfare, of the club, but are now pleased to report a very considerable improvement in the green and in the playing through the green. (As was ;hpticipated, a large expenditure was incurred in laying out and fencing greens, erecting a pavilion and stiles, bridging' creeks, etc.—a total expenditure, in all, of about £9O. To meet this, ji levy was made, producing about £3o, and the balance was obtained by sonic of the members kindly cnaranteeinc /a small overdraft at the bank whitnow stands at about £3O. • W ith ever,', indication for a very successful season your committee do not expect any difficulty in extinguishing this liability in the next two seasons. Duniiji last season matches were played wit'; the New Plymouth, Unglewoocl, and W'aitara Clubs, with honours slightl.s in your club's favour. The ..•men's, championship was Avon by Mr S. Spnice ami the handicap aggregates were headed by Mr, J.'PL Thompson. Several 'of last year's members, including Hie secretary, have left thv district, but already a commensurate number of ladies and men have signified their intention of becoming members During the late summer the Ground Committee had th? greens enlarged and top-dressed, the creek drained, and a putting green laid down in front of the pavilion Your committee desire to thank thos< ladies who 30 kindly dispensed tea an match davs, and also to thank the Stratford 'Racing Club for its cooperation in effecting some of the improvements.
