The Masterton Racing Club’s autumn meeting opened on the Opalci racecourse to-day in fine weather. There was a large attendance, and excellent racing resulted. The tot all : sator investments amounted to £9208, which is an increase of £2819 on the opening day of last year. The YVa i pipi Cup was won by Mi,scal hy a head from St. Felix. The- last race of the day, which fell to Mr D. Buick’s Goldspey, produced a sensational dividend. The following are concluding results: — Masterton Hack Handicap, of SO sevs j one mils.—Mira 8.2 (Ryan) 1, Glenfern 7.1 (O’Shea) 2, Kingswell 7.3 (Emmerson) 3. Also started: Bonnie Boy 9.0, Gaby 8.0, Lord Renown 7.10, Lady Volley 7.10, Black Reef 7.7, Mediterranean 7.0, Florence Nightingale 7.3, Waikehua 7.10. "Won by a length and a half, with a length, between second and third. Time, Imin 43sec.
Waipipi Cup, of 170sovs; one mile and a quarter.—Miscal 7'.8 (Weller) 1, St. Felix 6.10 (Emmerson) 2, Colden Loop 7.8' (Tricklebank) 3. Also started: Sir Knox 9.0, Our- Queen 8.7, The Hover 8.7, Red Lupin 7.8, Sir Solo 7.4, Bally shannon 7.2, and San Piuie 6.12. Won by a short head. Golden Loop, who was left badly, got within a head of the second horse. Time; 2min 10 l-sssc.
