The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 1912. THE RALLY.

The Reform Party’s gathering in the Stratford Town Hall last night was certainly a great gathering, and those present were enthusiastic to a degree. Mr. Massey should be well pleased with his, reception, and with tjie (exhibitionof the , ,P,arty, loyalty Oppositionists of Stratford! and . district iliade clear' they possess; The speeches were, as quite in order, tinder the circumstances, directed with full force against the Ministry. Mr Massey’s' speech was a strong indictment of the action of the Ward Ministry in its last hours, and an emphatic refutation of the assertion that the Opposition had won its seats by a campaign •of misrepresentation. Every elector ■ will, of course, endorse ilr Massey’s expressed sentiment that it would ho preferable to row the hard row of .Opposition for ever rather than reach the coveted Treasury honchos by dishonourable means, and will.be equally in agreement that nothing, can excuse the breaking of deli nitc pledges. Other speeches delivered were downright Opposition uttranccs, Mr E. K. Newman sounding one note of special warning against the iniquitous single-tax on land, an innovation towards which a party in our Dominion’s politics, is steadily working. As every speaker noted in his remarks, a most important part of the evening’s business was to publicly honour the Member for Stratford and Mr J. B. Mine may well feel.proud that so’many follow members of Parliament and such a big gathering of his constituents should have assembled to do him such honour. Air Hine, though a comparatively young parliamentarian, has rapidly come into high favour with his Party, and this allied to his uprightness and personal popularity, places him in a very strong position. Last night’s Rally was undoubtedly a great success, and its echoes will long be hoard in the land.
